Today we celebrate Near Miss Day, the anniversary of March 22, 1989- the day the 4581 Asclepius asteroid passed by the Earth at a distance of some 700,000 km, causing a bit of a stir. Some astronomers say that had the asteroid hit Earth, the impact would have been equivalent to one Hiroshima-sized atomic bomb detonating every second for 50 days. Now, that’s a serious near-miss!

The geek in me thinks Atari when I hear Asteroids. We still own the game (somewhere stored safely within the confines of the basement) and I’m thinking of digging it out. For the fans of the game, you can destroy as many asteroids as possible and play the game at Atari’s site. Have fun & happy Near Miss day!
