A Woman Is A Woman (Jean-Luc Godard. 1961, Starring Anna Karina + Jean-Claude Brialy).

French New Wave master, Jean-Luc Goddard’s film A Woman Is A Woman is about the relationship between exotic dancer Angéla (Karina) and her lover Émile (Brialy). Angéla wants to have a baby, but Émile is a no-go. To make him jealous, she turns her attention to his best pal, Alfred (Jean-Paul Belmondo). Intended as an homage to the American musical, A Woman Is A Woman is colorful and coy with its big production numbers and witty banter between the couple. This flick is one of my favorites for a lazy Sunday afternoon. For you Netflix users, you can stream it online right now.

Today, I stopped by my Grandmother’s house (a.k.a. Jojo) to pickup her old book collection. In one of the books I found a stack of old pages (dated 1950 on the back) containing hilarious quotes and illustrations by Ted Key. Just my luck! Here are a few of my favorites…

When you ran into trouble in 1970′s-1980′s television,  there was a small army of go-to heroes to pick from. Between the Dukes of Hazzard and the A-Team, the TV world had crafted an array of misfit crime fighters ready to ninja-kick and crash many a vehicle to save someone. Here are a few of our favorites!

It’s that time of year when little kiddos are lined up with their parents for a photo-op with a six-foot tall bunny rabbit. I was always terrified of the giant Easter Bunny- his skin seemed a little too loose and his white fur a little too ragged. Alas, in my head I thought I better be nice so he would bring me a giant chocolate version of himself. Check out these somewhat terrifying vintage photos with you-know-who.

While the era of the soda jerk was before my time, I long for the days on swively stools and flavored fountain drinks served by the cute boy behind the counter.

“The drugstore soda fountain was the backbone of Main Street USA from the time they made their appearance in the 1830′s through most of the 20th century. Most adults and children born during that great era affectionately recall the time they spent at the drugstore soda fountain sipping on a tasty Cherry Coke or root beer. Life was less complicated when a nickel or a dime could buy a soda fountain delight and always included sweet memories.” ~ Drugstore Museum

Recently, I stumbled across the Vintage Drug Stores group on Flickr which showcases images of vintage drugstores (circa 1950s and earlier, give or take a few decades). These are a few of my favorite images from the 1,277 in the group pool.

This is a handsome 1950s 8mm movie camera. Made by Keystone, this is a Capri K-25 model. Serial #963100.

The lens is a Keystone Elgeet 1/2″ f:2.5.

Whether it works or not, it would definitely be an excellent conversation piece to display in your home.

Not only are these photos from a WWII era Navy manual, they are photos of my very handsome grandfather, William Lee King. He served in the Navy on the USS Missouri during the war and shortly after, married my grandmother. We are very proud of Papa & miss him dearly.
