We want to know -> what vintage item are you hunting for this week? Are you desperately seeking something of a certain era or is it a summery shade of yellow calling your name at the nearest thrift store? I know I have a very big vintage wish list. Share yours + we hope to help!

Currently, I’m dreaming of the perfect vintage swimsuit (as you probably noticed!) + a small collection of old wooden chairs for the kitchen. I’m easy to please, that is, until I hit that thrift store/estate sale and something else catches my eye…

Post your vintage wishes + dreams in the comments, below. I bet we will all have a few in common!

It’s that time of year when yards are covered in you neighbors’ unwanted Thighmasters and costume jewelry. We’re on the verge of summer and kicking off yard/garage sale season with the enthusiasm of Chuck Norris. We were very aware of the hardcore yard/garage sale-ing folks within our Vintage Addict community, so we polled them for a few tips on scoring vintage in your neighbor’s garage.

Stephanie Haworth :: Plan your trip via Craigslist ads, then keep an eye out on your way through! Make sure your trunk and back seat are empty. Carry ropes, tie-downs, and bungees. If dragging the kids along (or even leaving them home), don’t forget them at the sales! They want junk, too! Speaking of yard sales, if you find yourself down in Southeast MO over Memorial day weekend, check out their 100 mile yard sale!

mitukatie :: Make sure to look thru everything more than once…its easy to miss great things the 1st time thru!

Tina Pfeiffer :: Bring your own bag and a box or two in the trunk. I bring my own newspaper, too, for anything that might be fragile.

PopFizzVintage :: Bring cash! Lots of smaller bills. Lowball offer on everything. Walk up with a lot of stuff and offer one price for all.

VintageMistress :: Garge+ estate sales + thrifts in low income or “older home” areas yield the best. These folks tend to keep their belongings longer.

My own personal tip :: Check out the neighborhood yard sales with multiple families participating. They tend to put their best items out due to the “keeping up with the Joneses”-syndrome.

Have some more suggestions for vintage hunting at yard sales? Share your ideas in the comments!

Some of the best places for vintage hunting are kept super-secret by the hunters themselves. When I decided to start My Vintage Addiction, I created it as a place for vintage fans and fiends to share their finds instead of giving away where they found them. As an avid vintage hunter, I have kept my favorite spots to myself since my early days of thrifting with Mom. Other than for a few special pals, Mom and my little sister are the only two I share my secret hunting grounds with.

With whom do you share your top-secret vintage hunting spots?

We asked. You answered. This is the second post in our investigative series featuring YOUR thoughts on vintage, thrifting, and the thrill of the hunt. This week we wanted to know where you prefer to hunt for vintage online: Etsy or Ebay? Read our fans’ answers and voice your own opinion in the comments, below.

Where do you prefer to hunt for vintage online: Etsy or Ebay?

Melody Meiners :: I am not a vintage-hunting pro, but I have been looking for a piece of art for the baby’s nursery and have been pleasantly surprised by etsy… haven’t even run across anything decent on ebay.

FancyLuckyVTG :: Etsy for sure! It’s like shopping at a boutique compared to a mall.

Tamara Kingry Farnell :: generally ebay because I have been using for so long, but etsy is quickly growing on me.

Christine Bailey Claringbold :: Etsy!

VintageDaisyDeb :: etsy… love the set price format and it’s just a nicer place

warchildvintage :: ebay for clothes, etsy for accessories.

Amanda Cleary :: ebay.

Art_Deco_Dame :: etsy of course,shopping on ebay is like slumming it.

Tina Pfeiffer :: Etsy – biased since I sell vintage there! :)

LoLaVintage :: Etsy, Etsy, and Etsy. Ebay of course still has a ton of lovely dresses, but it is click thru hell.

mirthandwonder :: Etsy is better for general finds. Ebay is great for specific finds.

Loretta Owens :: Somehow, I manage to navigate the eBay search function more easily but I definitley prefer buying on etsy…better vibe and the people are so gosh darned awesome.

AshesForAsh :: etsy. better photos, friendlier

Lisa Graystone Hergenroeder :: ETSY

gggreenlight :: Ebay, for sure. Etsy is more “vintage with a twist”

buttercupkaren :: Etsy, hands down! Etsians put effort into creating a visually stimulating environment in which to shop. More eye-candy! :)

Margret Robbins :: etsy and I make a point to try and buy from there whenever I am looking

foulbrood :: ebay for items, etsy for clothes.

GGAVintage :: ETSY! Its so hard to find anything u want on ebay. Vtg is so much easier 2 navigate on Etsy. Also better pics & descriptions

Which do you prefer?

What are your thoughts on hitting estate sales vs. thrift shops? Any preference?

velvetavalon :: estate sales require prior planning and scouting. thrift stores are easy, always there and have regular hours.

theillumiletty :: I noticed at estate sales there are a lot very good quality unworn shoes in smaller sizes. which is excellent for a size 5 like me.

Joe :: Estate Sales!

maibyrd :: i prefer estate sales…vintage, in my opinion, have a better story and are more special when found in a strangers closet. :-)

SmallEarthVtg :: Personally prefer thrift stores. Estate sales can be treasure troves, but you need to be among the first in line & pushy.

Renee :: I love Estate Sales! I just always seem to work or want to sleep late!

UniqueFashion :: 10 plus years since I did my last Estate sale. Too many people and not worth getting up so early to be the first in line.

wizbeff :: i love both, but would choose estate sales over thrift stores. there always tends to be more quality items at the estate sales i go to.

ktkeating :: Love both!

mirthandwonder :: I’ve found thrift shops to be more accessible and less expensive.

natajean :: I love them both! but sometimes estate sales are more hit or miss while I’m almost guaranteed at least one find while thrifting

Coronation Vintage :: prices are always cheaper at thrift shops.

cur8vintage :: The latter, but both are full contact sports.

Dawn :: I prefer Thrift Shops (if they are not expensive) because at an Estate Sale there are always a long line of people waiting to get in and then it is bumper to bumper in the house. To hard to look around or keep your “STASH” away from others. It nevers fails at a estate Sale, no one will be looking at an item until I AM! Then people come out of the woodwork to look too! LOL
